Normal Health Values

Cat – What is normal? Heart Rate 120-140 beats/ min - Kitten 220-226 beats/ min Respiratory rate 20-30 breaths/ min No harsh, wheezing or moist sounds and no increased effort. Gums should be pale pink and moist Temperature 37.2-39.2’C Dogs – What is normal? Heart Rate 120-140 beats/ min - Puppy 220-26 beats/ min Respiratory rate 20-30 breaths/ min No harsh, wheezing or moist sounds and no increased effort. Gums should be pink and moist Temperature 37.2-39.2’C

First Aid Kit Recommendtions

- List of emergency phone numbers & normal physical parameters - Thermometer (rectal) - Lubricant for thermometer - Wound cream eg Solosite, Flamazine or local honey NO DETTOL or SAVLON - Nonstick dressings eg Melolin - Other sterile dressings - Sticky wrap eg Elastoplast. 5cm width is most flexible in uses. - Scissors (paramedics shears are ideal) - Betadine/ iodine liquid – use diluted to weak tea colour - Saline for flushing wounds and eyes – 0.9% - A few syringes to use in flushing wounds and eyes and for syringe feeding if needed - Electrolyte liquid/ powder eg Lectade. Avoid citrus/ fruit flavourings for cats and dogs - Short leash (max 90cm long) OR Cat Carrier (cats & small dogs) - Well fitted muzzle (dogs) - First Aid book- First Aid Book - Perth Vet Emergency - Elective - A cheap stethoscope - Any medications suggested by your vet eg antihistamines

First Aid Kit Recommendations- Large Animals Please make sure that your animals are used to handling and that you have appropriate holding facilities for your species (eg crush, head bale, race, yards, stables) to allow safe and effective treatment. - List of emergency phone numbers & normal physical parameters - Thermometer (rectal) - Lubricant for thermometer - Nonstick dressings eg Melolin, paraffin guaze - Wound cream eg Solosite, Flamazine or local honey NO SAVLON or DETTOL - Other clean dressings eg Gamgee, Cotton Wool, nappies, sanitary pads. - Poultice dressing eg Animalintex - Sticky wrap eg Elastoplast. 7.5cm width is most useful for large animals - Scissors (paramedics shears are ideal) - Betadine/ iodine liquid – use diluted to weak tea colour - Saline for flushing wounds and eyes – 0.9% - A few syringes to use in flushing wounds and eyes and for syringe feeding if needed - Electrolyte liquid/ powder eg Lectade. - Fly repellent spray eg Cetrigen - Fly mask to protect eyes - Halter - Leadrope - Additional long rope(s) to tie up legs, help pull calves, use as lunge line ect. - Hose & tap for cleaning wounds - Bucket(s) - Towel(s) - Light source (eg torch) - Twitch for horses - 60-80cm lengths of 50mm poly pipe for livestock (great for passing orogastric tubes in cows & splitting into splints for calves, cria, kids & lambs) - Elective - A cheap stethoscope - Any medications prescribed by your vet (may need to be in fridge)
