Speys, Castrates & Geldings

Speys
A spey is the procedure by which we surgically sterilise a female animal via the removal of the ovaries and uterus down to the cervix. When performed at an appropriate age, this can help prevent mammary cancers and will always help prevent pregnancy and reproductive tract infections. Talk to your vet about the right time to spey your pet. Surcharges apply for pregnancy and we will not sterilise a dog who is in heat or had a heat within the last 8 weeks

Retained Testicles - see notes
If your pets testicles have not dropped into the scrotum appropriately then additional surgical exploration and pain relief is required. In these situations we will charge an additional $55 to 750 depending on the surgical time required.

Scrotal Ablation (Dogs)
Consider removal of the scrotum at the time of castration if your dog has very large and pendulous testes. This will reduce swelling and bruising where there is a large empty space left behind, making his recovery more comfortable (and the back view more aesthetic)
